I don’t know about you, but when I see painted vintage furniture, it just makes my heart swoon. Painted furniture is more popular than ever, and New Beginnings Furniture in Hendersonville, Tennessee has the prettiest pieces you will ever find. As their name says, they give “new beginnings” to antique furniture!
Bringing Character Pieces to Your Home
I personally discovered New Beginnings several years ago when I was looking on Craigslist for a foyer piece to go under my ancestry wall of photos. When I discovered it was an actual store, I could not believe my eyes to see how every single piece was charming and unique. It was a decorator’s dream. I wanted everything in their shop! Since that time, I have purchased at least 14 different gorgeous painted items from antique bedroom sets and china cabinets to vintage buffets and accent tables.
The Huff Family of Creative Entrepreneurs
New Beginnings is owned and operated by the Huff family, Andy and Vivian, along with their three daughters, Kelly, Stephanie, and Andrea. The business has truly been an evolution with no big plans to open a large furniture store initially.
Their daughter, Stephanie, bought a few pieces of furniture, painted them and put them on VarageSale. After some of those pieces sold, it inspired their daughter Kelly’s creative spirit. Then Andy’s entrepreneurial mind started thinking, and with bigger thinking, comes bigger opportunities.
Amazing Before and After Transformations!
Vivian explains, “Andy was working out of town several hours away, and when he saw this going on, he started checking out some used furniture places and brought a few additional pieces home to be painted and sold. By that time, the girls had also started listing items on Craigslist to sell.”
Things started growing quickly, and the Huff family expanded from a storage unit to an additional storage unit, and then to some rooms in an office building. Within a few short months, they began looking for a retail location.
HENDERSONVILLE’S MOST POPULAR FURNITURE STORE
That’s when the Huff’s launched their first official store on Stadium Drive in Hendersonville. After three years, they outgrew that space, so Andy found their current location at City Square Shopping Center. The entire family is involved with the business, and the location is big and beautiful, right in the heart of Hendersonville’s busy retail district.
As decorating styles change, painted furniture continues to be popular, along with traditional unpainted furniture. Some of the furniture they receive is in pretty rough condition, but it’s amazing what a little sanding, new paint, and new hardware will do. New Beginnings brings new life to vintage furniture and makes it lovely again.
MAKING THE OLD BETTER THAN NEW!
“Vintage or new, our hand painted furniture, is not made, it’s found. Instead of out with the old and in with the new, we’ll breathe new life into old furniture. Some pieces sell before we can get them posted, so we get new inventory regularly. If you’re looking for a particular piece we may have it. Just send us a message with the details of what your looking to find.”
Painting furniture must be in their DNA. “When I was a child my mother bought a corner cabinet,” explains Vivian. “She refinished this piece of furniture that was from around the early to mid-1800s. After removing seven different colors of paint, she finally got to the original wood. That is why I think painted furniture will always be around.”

Along with vintage furniture, New Beginnings also offers new pieces. You can pick from either a painted or an unpainted vintage piece. They have a complete warehouse of unpainted furniture you customize with your favorite paint color to match your home décor.
Their paint of choice is Blackberry House Paint, specifically designed for furniture, and created by Polly Blair of Murfreesboro, Tennessee. “We came across the Blackberry House Paint and quickly came to enjoy it,” explains Vivian.

“We like the ease of use, the results, and the wonderful color selection. Everyone has a favorite paint if they have been doing this for a while. This happens to be our favorite. Blackberry House Paint is easier to use, and we get better results than with others we’ve tried, including various chalk paints. It is acrylic based paint and chalk-free.”

My personal favorite, and New Beginnings’ most popular color is Warm Milk. Vivian says, “It is a beautiful soft white with taupe undertones. It looks wonderful with many color schemes. Other popular choices are black, like Cast Iron Skillet, various grays, like Screen Door, and Midnight Stroll, a beautiful rich navy.
“Something I have seen over the years is people will pick out a color to have a piece of furniture painted; and ironically, they are wearing the same color. I think people need to be comfortable with the color choices they make. It needs to make them feel happy!”
UNIQUE FINDS FOR YOU TO DISCOVER
In addition to furniture and paint, New Beginnings sells home décor accents and florals. Before Covid, they offered painting classes, and still hope to resume those again soon. If you are interested in learning how to use their painting method, they will give you instructions when you come to their store.

Maybe you have a piece of furniture you would like painted, but don’t want to do it yourself. Let New Beginnings Furniture paint it for you! Simply call the store, and they will have you text them a picture of the piece, along with its measurements for a painting estimate. They will schedule a drop-off date, and start a work order. Payment is made at the time of order, and turnaround time is typically two to four weeks.
BRING SOME MUSCLE WHEN YOU COME!
Vivian added, “We tell people to bring their own muscle to load and unload when dropping off or picking up their furniture. For the most part, we are a bunch of women, and this furniture is heavy! We also work with several delivery and moving companies for those who do not have the ability, or a vehicle to transport the furniture.”
