I have been a fan of NewsChannel 5’s “Talk of the Town” ever since we moved to Nashville many years ago. This noon-day show on Nashville’s CBS affiliate features the lovely Meryll Rose. It is among the country’s most successful local talk shows. Never in my wildest dreams did I ever think I would be a guest on the show. Let me tell you what it was like!

Meryll invited me to be on the show to share my Winter Decorating Ideas. You can find my full post on these tips here. Once I learned I was scheduled to do a segment January 8th, and that it would be LIVE, I was excited and terrified! I’m not going to lie. Ha Ha!

On the big day, I loaded up all my winter decor, faux snowballs, cozy throws, and baskets then headed to the NewsChannel 5 station in downtown Nashville. My husband, Chuck, drove while I prayed. What struck me as I entered the studio was how few people were actually there and how peaceful it seemed. It certainly helped calm my butterflies.

Nashville’s Most Beloved Broadcasters

I met the director, Producer Tuwanda Coleman, and cameramen. It was a thrill to see meteorologist Lelan Statom working away studying the forecast for the week. Lelan was awarded
The 2019 Broadcaster of the Year Award” by the National Weather Association this year, and has won an Emmy award for his coverage of the 2006 tornadoes.

Then came in the beautiful Meryll Rose. She has been the Executive Producer and co-host of Talk of the Town with Lelan for many years. Meryll has been a fixture in Nashville having grown up here before attending the University of Tennessee.

Meeting Nashville Television Royalty

Meryll returned to Nashville to co-host and produce Nashville’s first magazine show, “PM Magazine.” Her next role was producer of the weekly series “This Week in Country Music,” that later became the popular TNN series “Crook & Chase,” for Jim Owens Entertainment. In 1987, she joined NewsChannel 5’s “Talk of the Town.”

In spite of all her many accolades, Meryll Rose is as gracious and kind as she appears on TV. She helped me run through my segment and made me feel totally at ease. We posed for photos, discussed her love of house flipping, and our mutual love of decorating blogger KariAnne Wood of Thistlewood Farms.

Live TV is Not for the Faint of Heart

I had to do a short 15-second taping of glitter-sprinkling as a bumper of what would be coming up on the show. Then before I knew it, 11:00AM rolled around, and Vicki Yates was doing the news.

My segment would be up next. Did I tell you this was LIVE? Yikes!!

So Meryll and I got in place and waited for the cue to begin. “Okay, ten seconds!”

“Five, four, three, two, one!”

Today on Talk of the Town…

Then Meryll starts in, “Today on Talk of the Town…” I had heard that hundreds of times. But this time, I was in front of the camera.

As we went through all my winter decorating tips, Meryll made it so easy and comfortable. I had her demonstrate how to make “faux snow” using kosher salt and iridescent glitter. She loved the faux snowballs and even mentioned the gorgeous birch decorative logs I found on Walmart.com.

In truly a blink, the four-minute segment was over! Next up on the show was the Nashville Zoo. They actually brought a tortoise and hare from the zoo to share with the viewers.

Yet Another Reason Nashville is the Place to Be

Like a flash, and it was over. What a super fun day! I was completely humbled and honored to be on such a beloved Nashville show. Meryll is a total professional, while being extremely down-to-earth.

I adore Meryll Rose and Talk of the Town. Together, she and and the NewsChannel 5 team are another reason to love Nashville. Now, I’m ready to do it again!

I’m here for YOU!

Much love & joy,
